National Talent Search Examination - 2017 (Stage I & II) Dates and Events

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national level examination conducted by The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for presenting scholarships. In 2017, the NCERT is conducting the exam in two stages.

The stage I (State Level) examination will be held on November 5, 6 and 13, 2016 and stage II (National Level) exam will be held on May 14, 2017. 

About one thousand scholarships are presented in different stage of education as follows:

  1. Scholarship of Rs. 1250/- every month for Class XI to XII
  2. Scholarship of Rs. 2000/- per month for graduates and undergraduates
  3. Scholarship amount for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms

Selection for Stage I will be done by States/UTs and students who qualify Stage I will be eligible for Stage II exam, conducted by NCERT.

Eligibility Criteria

According to the eligibility criteria of NTSE 2017, all the students of X standard are eligible to appear for Stage I examination. There will be no domicile restriction.

Exam Pattern

In both the stages, the exam is divided into two papers: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) & Mental Ability Test (MAT). In Stage II (National Level), there will be negative marking in each paper. For each wrong answer, 1/3 marks will be deducted. For unattempted questions no marks will be deducted.

Students may contact the State/ UT Liaison officer for the procuring application form.

Class X students studying abroad can directly appear for Stage II NTSE under conditions prescribed in the NTSE brochure available in the NCERT website. Candidates need to fill up the Application form, available on the NCERT website and send the undersigned form with a photocopy of the mark sheet of the previous examination, latest by 31st December 2016.
