As students, goal setting is nothing new to us. At some point or the other we have set goals either regarding academics or with some other endeavour of ours. But how often do we get excited about this? Or is this even something that we should get excited about?

Edison quote

Yes, absolutely. Goals are going to help us get closer to achieving our dreams. We all enjoy visualising ourselves achieving whatever it is that we want to. If we tap into this excitement and yearn to reach there,
we could start converting our dreams into goals and our goals into results. Isn’t the thought of converting all our dreams into reality exciting?

Goals help us work backwards and this always makes sure that we manage time better. As good as all this sounds we need to be careful when we set goals and that’s where ‘Effective’ goal setting comes into the picture. For this we have the popular S.M.A.R.T approach to goal setting.

Once we make sure our goals are in line with this approach, we could get our plan of action ready.

While goals provide us with the necessary motivation to help us work towards fulfilling them and thereby make things enjoyable too, we need to remember that the key to achieving anything is ‘Doing’.

Goal setting
Dave Ramsey quote

Here’s when our plans make all the difference. Once the goal and a relevant plan is set, at every point through our journey we are aware of the things we need to do to accomplish our goal.

Also it’s always a good idea to stop and check if our actions and our goals are aligned with where we want to reach. This will stop us from getting carried away and steer us in the right direction.

In short, overcome the inertia that’s holding us back from doing things (set effective goals), start doing (put things into action instead of overthinking) and keep the momentum (a good plan) till we reach the finish line and one by one our dreams will start turning into reality.
