The International Math’s Olympiad (IMO) is one of the distinguished examinations at the college level for class X students. Every year 6 of the most brilliant students in Math’s are given the opportunity to represent their nation among nearly 100 competing nations, solve a sequence of extremely challenging problems to try, and fetch the coveted Gold Medal. These students are generally selected through a National Level Olympiad conducted in the respective nations.

In India, we have the Indian National Math’s Olympiad at the national level. INMO is the entryway to IMO. Nearly 30 students are shortlisted from all over the nation through this test. These candidates are then further trained at the Orientation Cum Selection Camp and 6 from amongst them are selected to represent India at the IMO.

Questions on everyday Mathematics in the third section will include mathematical reasoning.

The International Mathematics Olympiad is conducted on two levels:

1st Level:

Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO): This is held at the regional level. The country is categorized into various regions and each region conducts the RMO. At present, only students studying in class IX, X, and XI can write this exam. The RMO is an examination of 3 hours consisting of 6 to 8 questions of the moderate difficulty level of 100 marks.

2nd Level:

At this level, 30 students from every region are selected for the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO). In this, students are asked to solve only 6 problems within a period of 4 hours. The INMO is different from most of the exams where students can solve several questions within a short time period.

Students preparing for the Olympiads are generally preoccupied with entrance exam preparation. Therefore, sometimes it becomes difficult for them to decide whether they should go for competitive exams like IIT-JEE, CET or they should opt for Olympiads like Math’s Olympiad, Science Olympiad, and much more.

In such a case, analyzing one’s aptitude will help choose the right path. One of the simplest ways to do this is to write Deeksha Scholastic Aptitude Test (dSAT). The test will identify your skills in various subjects. Accordingly, you can decide which way to go. For example, if you score well in Math’s, then INMO will be the right choice for you.
