While preliminary responses of students towards the JEE Advanced 2015 were mixed, many students believed that the change in the marking pattern came as a shock to them. Approximately 1.22 lakh students from over 350 centers across India appeared for papers 1 and 2.
The negative marking pattern was increased this year. Both the papers included negative marking for incorrect answers in the second and third section.
The examination, which generally consists of 350 marks, holds a weightage of 504.
Several students who appeared for the JEE Advanced examination, that forms the basis for admission to the Bachelor’s Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programmes in the 16 IIT’s and the Indian School of Mines found two subjects, i.e. Mathematics and Physics very tricky, however Chemistry was comparatively simpler.
Each paper consisted of 60 questions. The examination consisted of two question papers covering chemistry, maths and physics.
While paper one was for 264 marks, the second paper was for 240 marks.
Rahul Jana, a Deekshaite found the pattern very different from the previous year. He said he had to be extra careful before selecting an answer in the multiple choice section. He added, in preceding years, there were single-answer type questions, but this year there was not a single one and he found the options quite confusing too.
Rahul Jana analysed both the papers that had several questions with a marking scheme of 4 for correct answer and -2 for each wrong answer apart from the 2 and -1 marked queries.
According to experts, Chemistry paper was tougher this year.
Experts say in Physics, there were six easy questions, 11 moderate and 3 difficult queries.
Dr. Sridhar G, Managing Director of Ace Creative Pvt Ltd. said the paper consisted of options of matrix match questions with negative marks assigned for parts B and C. In the Chemistry paper he found 14 questions easy, 4 moderate and 2 bit tricky in paper 1.
The results of the JEE Advanced Examination is scheduled to be announced on June 18.
